Why are the firings of federal prosecutors important?

Why does Ground Swell or anyone else care about this topic? The way I heard it, right after the last mid-term elections, GWB asked the Justice Dept to fire 8 US attorneys who were claimed to be underperformers. When their records were checked, it was discovered that this was not the case--nearly all had good or excellent performance appraisals. So what was it with these particular lawyers? The only answer could be political; they either refused to do some task assigned to them that was deemed illegal, or they failed to discover any proof of election fraud in their districts. Either way, Mr. Gonzales wanted them out. Here's a link to an article about the issue:

So, what does this mean to the average taxpayer? Well, if you think about it, these are the lawyers who can either prove or ignore wrong-doing in your home district. 6 have already testified before Congress and one of them, David Iglesias, was the Navy lawyer portrayed in the movie "A Few Good Men." Each was pressured into doing something they didn't think right and, in some cases, reported being warned to "keep quiet or face retaliation." http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/03/06/AR2007030600606_pf.html

What we're talking about is the JUSTICE Department using strongarm tactics on US attorneys in order to get what they want--through any means possible. The Justice Dept, my friends, is supposed to enforce the law in the public interest--not the Republicans, not the Democrats, and certainly not GWB's! So, if the Justice Dept is breaking the law, where does that leave the rest of us Joe & Jane's of the US? Mostly it seems with a corrupt Justice Dept (I mean, did any of you see Gonzales squirm, fail to answer questions, & generally look like a fool when he testified?). The bottom line is, if our Attorney General, Justice Dept, and federal prosecutors can lie, cheat & steal, it doesn't leave the average citizen with much to count on, now does it?

And the latest news is the White House will probably try to block one of their aide's from testifying in this scandel--http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19655101/. So, what have they got to hide?
