History Repeats Itself

We all know history repeats itself. Witness the recurring examples of wars, crusades, genocides, catastrophic events, etc. Much of history is relegated to gorgeous old, leather books with gold lettering and long-winded names like A History of the Rebellion with annotations as Told by the Earl of Sandwich and commented on by Rothchilde while he unwound under a Yew tree. Phew, I made that up, but trust me, I've seen some doozies on those reference shelves in the library!

With the invention of radio, tv, and the internet, we no longer have to rely solely on the printed word, but can also do a rewind and hear & see events in modern history. Thus we have seen Kennedy repeat seemingly over and over again, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country." Ditto with Roosevelt's, "There is nothing to fear but fear itself." Well, click on the Link in this blog post to see & hear a blast from the past of Dick Cheney. Ironic or prophetic?

The video was posted last Friday & YouTube apparently pulled it after all the uproar it raised. Hmm, are they RED-faced. Here it is in case that link "fails": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6BEsZMvrq-I.

Global Warming

If you read Al Gore's The Assault on Reason (Chapter 7, The Carbon Crisis), you'll learn that companies like ExxonMobil have not only been denying the existence of global warming, but have actively been funding anyone who writes against the scientific community on this issue! Anything to avoid admitting there's a problem--and they have the money bags to pay for it (see http://money.cnn.com/2006/01/30/news/companies/exxon_earns/). You'd think that, now that they've been exposed, they might duck & hide. Wrong. Read the article in the link to see that, not only has Big Oil continued to misinform the public, but not much has actually been accomplished to handle the issue.
Do Americans think that only other Americans are polluting? Do you think global warming is over now & you don't have to change anything? Do you still live in that 3000 square foot house with a hubby & 2 kids? Do you still own 3 cars & at least one is a SUV & the other 2 still don't get 30 mpg on the highway? Do you still pay outrageous prices for a gallon of gas? Maybe it's time to take a good, hard look at yourself & make a change, because you should know by now that, if you don't, your government won't.
In fact, unless you've buried your head in sand over the last 7 years, you should know that the Bush Administration has been writing rules (more than all other Presidents combined), that has reduced standards set by such laws as the Clean Air Act (see http://query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=F60612F735540C778CDDAD0894DC404482). What this means is US companies can continue to pollute, or pollute even more, gratis from your elected President & his cronies. If you don't make a change & voice your concern over the failure of the current administration and Congress, nothing will change and you risk an even more uncertain future. So, lift your head out of the sand and take a look around. Yeah, it'll be painful, but doing nothing will, in the long run, hurt even more.
